%X As relações das anomalias de temperatura da superfície do mar (TSM) do Atlântico tropical sul (ATS) e a precipitação da América do Sul (AS) excluindo-se separadamente as influências do Pacífico equatorial leste (PEL), Pacífico subtropical sul (PSS), Atlântico tropical norte (ATN) e do Atlântico subtropical sul (ASS) foram analisadas usando correlação total e parcial. Para investigar as diferenças entre as fases quente e fria da Oscilação decenal do Pacífico (ODP), estas análises foram feitas para os períodos de 1948-1976 e 1977-2002. As análises das correlações totais simultâneas mostraram que existem diferenças significativas entre os padrões das fases fria e quente. Os mapas de correlação total e parcial mostraram padrões de tripolo na fase fria e de dipolo na fase quente. Durante a fase fria, estes mapas apresentaram correlações positivas sobre a Argentina entre 25ºS e 42ºS, característica não notada para a fase quente. ABSTRACT: The relations of the tropical South Atlantic (TSA) sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies and the precipitation over South America (SA) removing separately the influences of the eastern Equatorial Pacific (EEP), the southeastern subtropical Pacific (SSP), the tropical North Atlantic (TNA) and the subtropical South Atlantic (SSA) were analyzed using total and partial correlation. In order to investigate the differences between the cold and warm phases of the Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO), these analyses were done for the 1948-1976 and 1977-2002 periods. The analyses of the simultaneous total correlations showed significant differences in the correlation patterns between cold and warm phases. The maps of the total and partial correlations showed a tripole pattern for the cold phase and a dipole pattern for the warm phase. During the cold phase, these maps presented positive correlations over Argentina between 25ºS and 42ºS, a feature not noted for the warm phase.
