Cold Surges during wintertime in Southern and Southeastern of Brazil cause important damage to the regional agriculture and human activities. In particular, the production of coffee is strongly dependent on significant temperature descents. The rotated Principal Components Analysis (PCA) is used to obtain the basic patterns of sequence of sea level pressure. The winter cold surges over São Paulo City during the 1960-2002 period occur in four patterns at surface. The most classic pattern shows an important postfrontal anticyclone producing cold air advection in Southeastern of Brazil that was associated with the passage of a cold front. The other important pattern presents is associated with a intense low-pressure system over the Atlantic ocean which produce strong southerly winds over the study region. Both of them are associated with the most cold air advection over São Paulo City. The analysis of the interdecadal variability of the pattern indicate a possible increase of days with significant fall of temperature over São Paulo city. 26.4 - CRITERION OF DETECTION OF COLD AIR INCURSIONS IN THE CENTRAL REGION OF ARGENTINA FROM INTERDIURNAL DESCENTS OF TEMPERATURE. %8 Setiembre %N 1 e 2 %@secondarydate 20051222 %T Criterios de deteccion de irrupciones de aire frio en la region central de Argentina a partir de descensos interdiurnos de temperatura %K cold Surges, principal components. %@secondarytype PRE PI %@group DOP-INPE-MCT-BR %@e-mailaddress atus@cptec.inpe.br %@copyholder SID/SCD %@secondarykey INPE-13507-PRE/8720 %2 sid.inpe.br/iris@1915/2005/12.22.15.35.03 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE)/CPTEC %B Meteorologica %P 57-68 %4 sid.inpe.br/iris@1915/2005/12.22.15.35 %D 2004 %V 26 %A Escobar, Gustavo Carlos Juan, %A Bischoff, Susana, %@area MET
