In this time of globalization, when the competition is bigger than ever, project success is a crucial goal for organizations. In order to achieve project success many decisions shall be made before the project kick-off. One of these decisions is investigated in this paper: the decision to whether co-locate or not the project team. The paper provides a literature review about team co-location, its advantages and disadvantages, virtual teams and project performance parameters. It is proposed a table to be used as a guide to determine if the projects achieve the success or not. This paper also presents a case study where 3 couples of similar system projects were analysed. In each couple, the first Product Development (PD) has occurred with a co-located team and in the second one has occurred with a virtual team (not co-located team). The project performance parameters were identified using the proposed table. %@session oral %E Loureiro, Geilson, %E Curran, Ricky, %T The Effects of Teams' Co-location on Project Performance %@electronicmailaddress marina.natalino@embraer.com.br %@electronicmailaddress geilson@lit.inpe.br %@electronicmailaddress claudiano@embraer.com.br %@format CD-ROM; On-line. %@secondarytype PRE CI %K co-location, teams, project success. %8 2007, July 16-20 %@visibility shown %@group %@group LIT-INPE-MCT-BR %@e-mailaddress marina.natalino@embraer.com.br %J São José dos Campos %@secondarykey INPE--PRE/ %@mark 1 %2 dpi.inpe.br/ce@80/2007/01.22.18.46.33 %@affiliation Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica - ITA %@affiliation Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica - ITA %@affiliation Embraer S.A. %I Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@subject Organization and managerial issues %P 700-710 %4 dpi.inpe.br/ce@80/2007/01.22.18.46 %D 2007 %1 Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %S Proceedings %A Zenun, Marina Mendonça Natalino, %A Loureiro, Geilson, %A Araújo, Claudiano Sales, %C São José dos Campos %@area ETES
