O perodo de estudo 1979 a 1993. O intuito do presente trabalho de aprofundar o conhecimento dos padres espaciais intra-sazonais da precipitao e sua persistncia no Brasil. Um resultado importante do presente trabalho mostra que as amplitudes das oscilaes intra-sazonais so mais intensas no leste do Brasil, entre os meses de primavera, vero e outono. Na regio sul, observam-se oscilaes de 20 dias intensas no inverno na primavera, e oscilaes de 40 dias durante os meses de inverno. Sobre a Regio Sudeste as amplitudes das oscilaes de 20 e 40 dias so mais intensas que na Regio Sul e os mximos ocorrem nas estaes de primavera e vero. Este fato aparentemente indica a possibilidade de monitoramento destas oscilaes com o intuito realizar de prognsticos de longo prazo. ABSTRACT Seasonal spatial patterns of rainfall intraseasonal oscillations with periods of 20 and 40 days of Brazil are studied through the wavelet power density. The rainfall data spans the period 1951-93. The goal is to improve our knowledge on intraseasonal spatial pattern of rainfall amplitude and persistence over Brazil. An important result of this work shows that the amplitudes of the intraseasonal oscillations are more intense along the east Brazil during spring, summer and autumn months. In the South Region are observed intense oscillation with period of 20 days during winter and spring, and oscillations with period of 40 days in winter months. Oscillation amplitudes of 20 and 40 days are more intense in Southeast Region than in South Region and the maximum values occur in spring and summer season. This fact indicates a possibility of monitoring these oscillations over southeast Brazil in order to long term forecast. 1 INTRODUO Durante os ltimos anos tem havido crescente interesse na Anlise de Ondeleta, devido possibilidade de se obter novas perspectivas e discernimentos que no so factveis com outras ferramentas tradicionais (Foufoula-Georgiou e Kumar, 1994). Ao contrrio da tradicional Transformada de Fourier, que d a amplitude e a fase mdia de cada harmnico sobre todo o perodo, a transformada de ondeleta fornece uma avaliao local da amplitude e fase de cada harmnico. Assim, a Anlise de Ondeleta particularmente til para detectar sinais no estacionrios ou flutuaes de carter episdico. Adicionalmente, a Transformada de Ondeleta Contnua prov uma janela adaptativa tempo - freqncia que automaticamente estreita-se quando enfoca oscilaes de alta freqncia e alarga-se para baixas freqncias. Estas caractersticas so adequadas na anlise de sinais com componentes de mltipla escala. Por outro lado, estudos observacionais mostraram que as oscilaes intra-sazonais com perodos de 3060 dias (Kousky e Kayano, 1994) e perodos de 22-28 dias (Paegle et al., 2000) atuam sobre o Brasil, modulando a conveco e a precipitao, particularmente da Zona de Convergncia do Atlntico Sul. Sendo assim, a Anlise de Ondaleta torna-se ideal para a anlise da precipitao diria, que altamente no estacionria com caractersticas episdicas e de mltipla escala. No presente trabalho estudam-se as oscilaes intrasazonais, com perodos em torno de 20 e 40 dias, da precipitao sobre o Brasil, utilizando-se a Anlise de Ondeleta de Morlet (Morlet et al., 1982a, 1982b), com o intuito de aprofundar o conhecimento dos padres espaciais intra-sazonais de amplitude e persistncia da precipitao no Brasil. 2 - DADOS E METODOLOGIA 2.1 - Dados A base da dados do presente trabalho composta pela precipitao diria do Brasil. Utilizam-se dados de precipitao diria em pontos de grade de todo o Brasil ( 2o x 2o latitude/longitude) de 15 anos (1979-93), interpolados atravs do mtodo Kriging (Matherton, 1970), a partir de dados dirios de precipitao observados ao longo do Brasil, fornecidos pela ANEEL, Ncleo Estadual de Meteorologia e Recursos Hdricos de Maranho, Departamento de Hidrometeorologia do Piau, FUNCEME e SIMEPAR. 2.2 - Metodologia A identificao e caracterizao das oscilaes intra-sazonais da precipitao tm como base a anlise da transformada de Ondeleta contnua, descrita de forma sucinta abaxio. Para tanto, utilizou-se a metodologia descrita por Torrence e Compo (1998). A transformada de Ondeleta decompe uma funo continua EMBED Equation.3 em termos de um grupo de ondeletas EMBED Equation.3. Cada ondeleta derivada de uma funo bsica EMBED Equation.3 atravs de uma translao r (mudana de posio) e de uma dilatao s (mudana de escala). A Transformada de Ondaleta contnua da funo EMBED Equation.3 definida como a integral EMBED Equation.3 (2.1) Onde EMBED Equation.3 o complexo conjugado de EMBED Equation.3. O fator EMBED Equation.3 da integral utilizado para normalizar a energia de cada ondeleta. A Eq. 2.1, essencialmente transforma a funo EMBED Equation.3 do domnio temporal para a funo EMBED Equation.3 no domnio da translao e da escala, ou no domnio r - s. Para uma ondeleta dada, usualmente existe uma relao que translada r para o tempo t, e a escala s para a freqncia f, permitindo desta maneira obter EMBED Equation.3. Em outras palavras, a Transformada de Ondeleta, decompe a funo EMBED Equation.3 no espao tempo-freqncia t f. Existem muitas funes bsicas utilizadas para gerar vrias ondeletas. Neste trabalho utilizada a funo mais amplamente utilizada, a funo complexa de Morlet (Morlet et al., 1982a, 1982b), que composta de uma onda plana modulada por um envelope Gaussiano. As ondeletas geradas so denominadas de ondeletas de Morlet. O padro similar a ondas desta ondeleta particularmente adequado para a anlise das oscilaes a levar-se em considerao. A funo bsica de Morlet expressa como: EMBED Equation.3 (2.2) e as ondeletas geradas: EMBED Equation.3 (2.3) A relao entre o espao r - s e o espao t f para a ondeleta de Morlet : EMBED Equation.3, EMBED Equation.3 (2.4) Para examinar as oscilaes intra-sazonais utiliza-se a densidade de energia da ondeleta nas escalas de 20 dias e 40 dias, das anomalias de precipitao diria (5497 dias), como representativas das oscilaes de 10-30 dias e 30-60 dias, respectivamente, normalizadas linearmente em cada ponto de grade, de tal modo que cada srie temporal tenha mdia zero e varincia 1. A densidade de energia da ondeleta em uma escala particular, s, pode ser definida como,  EMBED Equation.3  (2.5) onde:  EMBED Equation.3 =1;  EMBED Equation.3  = 0.125; s =20 e 40 dias;  EMBED Equation.3  =0.776; n=1,...5497. Assim, os valores mdios das sries temporais da densidade de energia da ondeleta,  EMBED Equation.3 , calculada para o perodo de tempo determinado e escala de oscilao so utilizadas nas anlises. 3 - Resultados 3.1 Variabilidade intra-sazonal das oscilaes de 20 dias A densidade mdia de energia de ondeleta de 20 dias das estaes do ano so apresentadas na Fig. 1a-d. Cada estao do ano apresenta padro espacial caraterstico, sendo que os valores mximos so registrados durante o vero sobre a Regio Sudeste. Na primavera (SON) identificam-se trs centros com valores mximos em latitudes ao sul de 10oS, com dimenses diferentes, nas quais a atividade da oscilao intra-sazonal de 20 dias intensa (Fig. 1a). Sobre a Regio Sudeste a atividade abrange a maior rea e a mais intensa das trs, provavelmente associada ZCAS durante o incio do perodo chuvoso desta regio. Os outros dois centros localizam-se nas Regies Centro-Oeste e Sul. Nota-se que no existe conexo entre os centros aparecendo como ncleos isolados de intensa atividade intra-sazonal. No vero (Fig. 1.b) observa-se um ncleo compacto com intensa atividade centrada sobre o Sudeste (Estado de Minas Gerais), associado ZCAS, abrangendo quase todo o Brasil, com exceo da regio Sul e o oeste da Amaznia. Este ncleo encontra-se na mesma localizao da estrutura bipolar N/S das oscilaes intra-sazonais, obtida por Casarim e Kousky (1986). Tambm nesta regio localiza-se a mxima varincia de 10-30 dias obtida por Liebmann et al. (1998) em anlise de Radiao de Onda Longa Emergente (ROLE). Em reas isoladas sobre o Nordeste e Norte do Brasil, observada atividade da oscilao de 20 dias durante o outono (Fig. 1c). Em JJA (Fig. 1d) duas reas isoladas, uma na regio Sul e outra no norte da Amaznia, apresentam baixa atividade. Padres intra-sazonais de oscilao, com perodos de 20 dias e amplitude de anomalias semelhantes, ocorrem ao longo da costa leste do Brasil. Caractersticas das oscilaes intra-sazonais como as determinadas por Peagle et al. (2000) e outros pesquisadores, so mais freqentes durante os meses de primavera uma vez que existem indcios de que a densidade mdia de energia de Ondeleta, tanto no Sudeste quanto no Sul, no difere em intensidade, dando lugar ao padro de anomalias polarizadas N/S de igual intensidade. Primavera (a), vero (b), outono (c) e inverno (d). 3.2 Variabilidade intra-sazonal das oscilaes de 40 dias A distribuio espacial da densidade mdia de energia de ondeleta de 40 dias, representativa da oscilao intra-sazonal 3060 dias, apresentada na Fig. 2 a-d. A distribuio espacial exibe intensa atividade desta oscilao concentrada ao longo do leste do Brasil, particularmente durante as estaes da primavera (SON) e vero (DJF), coerente com estudos anteriores (Kousky e Kayano, 1994; Grimm e Silva Dias, 1995; Paegle et al., 2000). Valores mximos so observados no extremo norte (sul) do Brasil durante as estaes de outono (inverno). Entre setembro e fevereiro a oscilao de 40 dias similar oscilao de 20 dias, sendo muito intensa sobre a Regio Sudeste e sul do Nordeste (Fig. 1a,b). Nas regies central e oeste da Amaznia a mdia da densidade de energia da ondeleta das oscilaes de 40 dias e de 20 dias so baixas em todas estaes do ano. A distribuio espacial da oscilao de 40 dias no parece indicar um padro bipolar N/S, entre o Sudeste e o Sul do Brasil (Fig. 1a, c), como observado nas anomalias de ROLE presente em estudos anteriores relacionados com a oscilao 30-60 dias (Paegle et al., 2000). Isto, em parte pode ser explicado pela sazonalidade dos eventos, sendo que na maioria destas oscilaes a amplitude da energia durante o vero (inverno) menor (maior) no Sul do que no Sudeste, relacionada ao perodo chuvoso destas regies. 4 Discusso e concluses A Anlise de Ondeleta das sries de precipitao diria do Brasil para o perodo de 15 anos (1979-90) mostram sinal significativo nas escalas de oscilao intra-sazonal de 20 e 40 dias, mostrando caractersticas regionais de atividade intensa que variam ao longo do ano. Verificou-se que no lado leste do Brasil a amplitude das oscilaes intra-sazonais com perodos de 10-30 e 3060 dias mxima, mais especificamente sobre a Regio Sudeste durante os meses de primavera e vero, consistente com estudos anteriores (Grimm e Silva Dias, 1995; Kousky e Kayano, 1994; Paegle et al., 2000). Assim, nesta regio aparentemente existe maior potencial quanto ao monitoramento destas oscilaes devido amplitude dos eventos, podendo esta ser utilizada com fins de prognstico de longo prazo. Na Regio Sul a atividade destas oscilaes est presente durante todo o ano, sendo mxima durante os meses de inverno e primavera. As oscilaes de 20 dias parecem estar mais fortemente moduladas pelas oscilaes de alta freqncia do que as oscilaes de 40 dias. Estas caractersticas so coerentes com o determinado por Paegle et al. (2000), onde as ondas estacionrias esto associadas s oscilaes em torno dos 40 dias, e ondas prximas a 20 dias esto associadas aquelas que se deslocam das altas latitudes em direo nordeste ao longo do leste do Brasil e so mais atuantes no sul do Brasil nos meses de inverno e primavera. Assim, o uso de sries longas poder produzir evidncias da dinmica da interao entre as oscilaes intra-sazonais da precipitao e eventos inter-anuais de grande escala, como o fenmeno ENOS, com maior clareza. A habilidade da Anlise de Ondeleta para mostrar o incio e a evoluo das oscilaes poder fornecer informaes importantes a respeito da dinmica associada a cada um dos processos e tambm servir como ferramenta para prognsticos de mdio e longo prazos. 5 Referncias bibliogrficas Casarin, D.
