Abstract | In January and February of 1999 LBA launched its first Wet Season Atmospheric Mesoscale Campaign (WETAMC), organized jointly with the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission - TRMM - validation campaign (known as TRMM/LBA). Both campaigns took place in Rondônia, Brazil’s southwest Amazon (see Figure 1 for map of observation sites). Preliminary results indicate a picture of an intrinsically coupled rain producing system where different processes interact at different space and time scales and where the underlying surface, either forest or deforested, actively participates in several mechanisms of cloud formation. |
