AbstractSediment samples collected along the South American Highplanes (altiplano) revealed the development of Paleolake Tauca during the late Pleistocene (13000 and 11000 BC). Studies suggest that during its maximum expansion the lake occupied an area of ~50% of the basin. The hydrological balance of the altiplano may have been altered by this extensive shallow mass of water. Different mesoscale circulations and precipitation than the observed in the present times may have contributed to stronger nocturnal convective storms and a moister environment. The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model is used to simulate the atmospheric response to the placement of Paleolake Tauca in the landuse files under quiescent conditions in order to filter the effects of the synoptic circulation. The results from several simulations that arose from the combination between different thermodynamic scenarios and diverse surface boundary conditions are presented..
