AbstractThe water is a natural resource of utmost importance for the conservation and maintenance of the life in the land, approximately 97% of the fresh sweet water reserves of the planet are formed from underground waters which characteristics are related to the natural conditions and to the use and of the ground occupation in the hydrographic basin. The changes in the land use - mainly forest fires and deforestation - have been a world-wide concern due to the influence of these factors in the climatic and hydrologic scopes, being able to interfere directly on factors as radiation, and to the surface temperature, precipitation and humidity, as well as in the dynamics of the hydrics resources. In the north of the state of Mato Grosso - Brazil, the changes in the land use have been in constant alteration, either by the monoculture plantation, or for the conversion of the native vegetation in to pastures, being basic studies essential for the identification of possible changes that interfere in the conservation and behavior of regional hydrics systems. The present work is an integrant part of the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in the Amazon, LBA, and has as aim a quali-quantitative evaluation of waters table in the Transition Forest, Management Forest and Pasture in the North of Mato Grosso. The region of study is located approximately 60 km from the Sinop city, Mato Grosso, Brazil (11°2475'S; 55°1950'O, co-ordinated by the micrometeorological tower LBA), with eight water tables were installed in Permanent Transition Forest area (3), in Management Forest (2) and in pasture (3). Water level measures have been carried monthly (quantitative analysis); of the pH and temperature of the water in loco, and samples have been collected from October 2004 to September 2005. The samples have been analyzed qualitatively in a physicist-chemistry laboratory, according to Standard Methods (APHA et al., 1998) The water level varied seasonally, the Pasture presented a bigger variation approximately two times more that in the Transition Forest and Management. The monthly average air temperatures had been superior to the water table temperature around 4°C in the Pasture and 3°C in the forests. The pH of the Forest waters presented greater variation between the dry and wet seasons, being more acid than the water table in others wells. The waters alkalinity presented seasonal variations and between the ecosystems, with bigger values in the Transition Forest and the Management Forest during the wet period, and in the dry period, bigger values in the Pasture. The turbidly presented greater values in the wet period. The relation N: P in the table waters of the Transition Forest and Management presented greater values in the wet period. The measurements and samples collected in the wells waters of the present work will have ended in December/2005, when the discussions and conclusions for the present article will be finished. One expects that the same will contribute for the monitoring of the hydrics resources in the northern region of Mato Grosso.
